Birds of Prey Visit

Today the whole school had a visit from Wise Owls Birds of Prey Rescue Centre. Year 1 were lucky enough to be first in to learn all about a range of owls and hawks including Orville the Little Owl who we were all lucky enough to have a photo taken with, with him sitting on our arms. Mrs Thompson got to hold Willow the European Eagle Owl but she was quite scared and some brave year ones laid on their backs and let the Harris Hawk fly over them almost touching their tummies! Other highlights included Gizmo the White Faced Scops Owl pooing on the floor and finding out about Poppy the Tawny Owl who is the same species as the owls featured in the book “Owl Babies”. We also met Squeak the Barn Owl who reminded us of the owl in the story “The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark.” Our time with the birds ‘flew’ by but gave us some great inspiration to write some excellent newspaper reports about the visit which you can view in class. Here are just a few pictures of the visit:

Our Church Visit!

As part of our RE lessons we have been studying Christianity.

We have been looking at all the different symbols and beliefs in the religion.

Special thanks to Birdwell Methodist Chapel for letting us visit and even take part in some fun activities, we had a great time!

Take a look!

Welcome to the Y1 class blog!

We started Y1 looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy. Children explored different materials at Forest School and created a range of sculptures.

We are now focussing our work around the film ‘A Night at the Museum.’ Children will find out about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Lots of hot seating will take place and biography writing explored.
