Dear parent and carer,
As you are aware, due to Covid-19 and the continued adherence to the Government guidelines we have been unable to offer our usual quality transition days that we have provided in the past. I can only apologise for this.
We have decided to offer a transitional first week into school in September; This is very similar to the transition we would have offered in previous years.
- On Wednesday 2nd September group A will attend school from 9am to 12 noon
- On Thursday 3rd September Group B will attend school from 9am to 12 noon
- On Friday 4th September Group A&B will attend school from 9:00 to 1:30 where they will stay for a school meal.
- From Monday 7th September all children will be welcomed into school on a full time basis.
On your child’s first day at school please ensure you bring the PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL form from your new starter packs with up to date contact details, along with their Birth certificate. If you do not bring these documents with you on the first day your child will not be able to stay at school.
We will continue to use the Chapel Gate to access the reception class for drop off and collection, please ensure you bring minimal items to school. We request that only one adult drops off and picks up to minimise congestion around the school and reduce adult contact and mixing. (please DO NOT use the Chapel car park at drop off and collection times – there is parking available at the very back of Birdwell Club car park)
We actively encourage the children to come in school uniform. Uniform can play a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of a school and setting an appropriate tone. Uniform does not need to be cleaned any more often than usual, nor do they need to be cleaned using methods which are different from normal.
We request that PE kits are brought on the first day and left in school until the end of the week (this will be in a predetermined colour to match the houses/teams your child is in either RED/GREEN/BLUE/YELLOW – the school office has already provided you with this information.) If your child already has a sibling in school this will be the same colour as them.
Every day we offer a Tuck shop at first break. Children can pay a £1 each Monday for a daily slice of toast.
Milk is provided free of charge for all children for the first term, after this if you still require milk, please speak to the school office and instruction on how to order online will be provided.
During the summer, please support educating your child around the importance of personal hygiene and handwashing. Where your child feels unwell (any sign of illness) please do not send them to school and seek advice from the school office. We enforce a 48 rule from the last episode of sickness and or diarrhoea in line with NHS guidance to reduce risk of transmission across school We need you to support us by being vigilant and keeping your children at home if they are feeling ill.
If your child has any additional needs, medical issues or any further personal matters you wish to discuss, please contact Mrs Atkinson Swift, our Parent Support Officer, she can offer support and guidance. She can be contacted via email firstname.lastname@example.org or alternatively ring 01226 742957.
The school uses ‘School Gateway App’ which can be downloaded to your smart phone or tablet via the app store for free. Once we have your correct/live email address and phone number from the Pupil enquiry sheet found in your starter packs you will be able to access the school’s main communication platform. The school Gateway App will allow you to pre-order school meals, (these are free), pay for trips and visits and send direct messages to the school office. Most correspondence is sent out via this app so it is essential that we have your correct details on file.
We hope this helps alleviate some concerns and worries regarding the start to school. Due to Covid-19 we have not been able to follow our usual procedures but we have found alternative creative ways to still engage with parents and children to support you through the process. I understand that it is a stressful time which is only compounded by the current situation. Children are very resilient and settled remarkably quickly into new routines and experience over the years has taught us that consistency and routine enables the children to settle fast in preparation for their learning journey here at Birdwell Primary School.
If you have any further concerns or worries, please do not hesitate to make contact with the school before the end of term.
All the best from the Birdwell team
Keep safe and try to have a lovely summer
Mr N Bailey
Birdwell Primary School
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to welcome you to the Birdwell Primary School community. We look forward to welcoming you into school as soon as possible and meeting you all face to face.
If you have any queries, please use email@example.com and your email will be directed to the relevant member of staff. Please bear with us when waiting for a response; as I’m sure you can appreciate, normal working patterns have had to be adapted slightly but we will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible.
If you are entirely new to school, it would be incredibly useful if you could also email us with contact phone numbers and email addresses so that we can be proactive keeping in touch with you.
